We just loved Stoke Gabriel (2 miles from the cottages.) The children spent hours crabbing on the creek and the River Shack is great for ice creams and lunches. We walked over the weir at low tide and explored the woods and had a pint at the Church House Inn when we returned exhausted! Jones Clan from Tetbury
Don’t miss the wonders of Dartmoor. We got on to the moor at Ashburton (about 8 miles) and visited Becky Falls which is beautiful, set among the trees and walk ways. We climbed Haytor which even the little ones managed. There are lots of challenging rock climbs for older children and a welcome ice cream van in the car park. The Tourist Info Centre was very helpful too. The River Dart is stunning and we loved all the old bridges and narrow roads.
We brought our bikes and had a great week. Lots of information in the games room about routes and ideas for days out. There is a bike bus that runs across Dartmoor if you get too exhausted! The Everards and Lloyds from Guildford
We went sailing at Salcombe and the kids loved it. We also discovered East Portlemouth on the other side of the Salcombe estuary and found a great walk straight up from the beach and over the headland. Heidi and Gavin Wembury
We loved Totnes. The Farmer’s Market every Friday is great fun with lots of street musicians and a glorious smell of local food. The costume museum was interesting and the children really enjoyed the walk around the castle ramparts. No need to take the car to Totnes as there is an excellent bus service from Longcombe and it saves parking. You can also walk the 2 miles along a very pretty bridle path and catch the bus home.
We had a winter visit and still found lots to do in the area. Paignton Zoo (2 miles from the cottages) was amazing and it took a full day to see it all. The new crocodile enclosure was fab. The beaches were deserted and we loved it! Anita, Ray and kids
We loved staying at the cottages because the pool is great. We played tennis, trampolined and played cricket. I liked Blackpool Sands best. Dad wanted to BBQ supper most nights because that’s his thing. I’d never been on an open top bus before – it was very windy but we saw lots of things.
Try the day out on the steam train/river cruise/open top bus tour – it all starts at Totnes and visits Dartmouth, Buckfast and Paignton. You can hop on and off and stay as long as you like. Astleys, Birmingham
