Devon has many outstanding National Trust properties and gardens, rich in history, to explore. Longcombe is ideally located for easy access to a wide variety of these attractions including: Castle Drogo (circa 1910-1930, commanding spectacular views of Dartmoor), Coleton Fishacre House & Garden (circa 1925, Dartmouth area), Compton Castle (circa 14th Century, Paignton area) & Killerton (circa 1778, near Exeter, excellent costume collection).

Within a 6 mile radius from Longcombe are a selection of 5 clubs including the Dartmouth Golf & Country Club (River views, No handicap required, 27 holes, Par 72), Churston Golf Club (Sea views, H/C certificate required, 18 holes, Par 70) & Hele Park Golf Centre (with floodlit driving range, no handicap required, 9 holes, Par 34).

Fish for your supper!
Excellent sea, lake and river fishing is available in the near vicinity of Longcombe, to suit all capabilities. Join one of the local sea fishing trips from Dartmouth or Salcombe, visit one of the well-stocked fishing lakes, or take a picnic to a lovely spot on the river Dart and enjoy the freshwater fishing in splendid isolation! There are eight reservoirs within the nearby Dartmoor National Park, where you can catch a variety of fish, including Brown Trout, Sea Trout and Salmon (permits needed).
Go for a casual stroll...or an energetic hike!
Devon's glory is its landscape and scenery, and one of the best ways to appreciate it fully is to set off on one of the many walking trails suiting all capabilities - and energy levels! Whether you're looking for a relaxing stroll exploring local villages, a full days walk along the many stunning coastal or river paths, or an energetic hike across Dartmoor National Park, Longcombe is within easy reach of them all! We would certainly recommend joining the nearby Dart Valley Trail, which offers 17 miles of glorious walking, and links the historic towns of Totnes & Dartmouth with Kingswear, and the waterside villages between. This route is linked by regular river cruise and ferry services - so you can do as much, or as little, walking as you like! All trails include quality country pubs en-route, where you can enjoy traditional home-made food and warm Devon hospitality.
Horse lovers heaven...
There is an excellent riding stable in the near vicinity of Longcombe - and of course with Dartmoor on our doorstep riders of all capabilities can enjoy a trot, canter or gallop with the most fantastic backdrop imaginable! Many trekking centres and stables have horses to suit all ages and abilities, and offer anything from a one hour ride to a full day's trek. Sail across the ocean waves...
All types of sailing boats are available for hire in the nearby area - so why not set sail down the coast! - Take a picnic - or moor up by one of the many coastal pubs for lunch - and enjoy the sun, sea and beautiful coastline from your advantage point on the ocean.
Take a relaxing river boat trip!
If you prefer to let someone else steer the boat, you have plenty of options for sea and river trips nearby! From Totnes, 2 miles from Longcombe, you can take a leisurely trip down to Dartmouth. With daily departures and return journeys, you'll have all the time you need to explore the town, enjoy lunch, and watch the world go by. Both short and long boat trips along the Devon coastline are available from many of the nearby coastal towns - and the evening disco cruise from Torquay offers a lively alternative for the really energetic!

If its night life your after, the best local night spots are only 4-6 miles from Longcombe - in Paignton and Torquay. A huge choice of restaurants and bars await you - and if you still have the energy, you can party the night away into the wee small hours at one of the many excellent nightclubs in the area! |
